Agape Symposium 3D Psykter

2500

ca. 524 B.C.

Attributed to Rom av.JC

Obverse, seated woman playing flute.
Reverse, seated woman holding two skyphos.

The psykter vase is used to refresh wine during a symposium, the part of the banquet during which guests drink together in conversation. A woman named Agape is depicted in the simplest of garb, holding two drinking vessels called skyphos.
The second figure, also a woman, is playing the flute for her audience. This was probably a party where only women were invited.
