Bacchus Leopardum Vectus

2200

ca. 25 B.C.

Attributed to Rom av.JC

Discovered in near-perfect condition during preventive excavations prior to the construction of the Parc Freyssinet, this carpet, transformed into a tapestry, once adorned the reception area of a Roman domus. This depiction of Bacchus, riding a leopard, suggests that the god of wine was widely celebrated in this house, where feasts must have been famous. Manufactured by Fabrica Minervae
