Vinum messis

1800

ca. 25 B.C.

Attributed to Rom av.JC

This kylix, part of a group of relics found around the Rue des Cèdres in the hills above Givry, is a perfect illustration of one of the favorite subjects of ancient ceramists. We’re talking, of course, about the everyday life of Roman inhabitants, as illustrated by these drawings of men harvesting and trampling bunches of wine.

Decorated with various threads of cotton or wool, this ceremonial kylix was probably made with the help of the artists’ apprentice, Lisa Jeanneyus.

Produced in collaboration with Fabrica Minervae , this new work will soon be visible at Galerie Saint-Jean, in Chalon-sur-Saône.
