Vita sculpturae

1800

ca. 525 B.C.

Attributed to Rom av.JC

Found on the banks of the Saône, this large kylix is quite original in that the central motif is made of wool. According to the researchers, the discovery is incredible, as this relic tells us the story of a sculpture, from its creation to its reuse.

In fact, all around, we find characters committed to produce a bust, under the blessing of Minerva, the goddess of artist and craftsmen, and destroying it to reshape a new portrait. Once again, we have an expression of the Roman’s ability to reuse.

Produced in collaboration with Fabrica Minervae , this new work will soon be visible at Galerie Saint-Jean, in Chalon-sur-Saône.
